Colorado Avalanche Update: Zadorov's Hat Trick and Lehkonen's Return

The Colorado Avalanche had an eventful week, with defenseman Nikita Zadorov recording his first career hat trick in a win against the Minnesota Wild, and forward Artturi Lehkonen nearing his return to the lineup after a lengthy absence due to injury.

Zadorov's Hat Trick

On Tuesday, April 11th, the Avalanche faced off against the Minnesota Wild in a critical game for playoff positioning. Zadorov, who had only scored three goals in his previous 63 games, unexpectedly exploded offensively, scoring three goals in the second period alone.

Zadorov's first goal came on the power play, as he one-timed a pass from Nathan MacKinnon into the top corner of the net. His second goal was a wrist shot from the point that beat Wild goaltender Cam Talbot cleanly. Zadorov's third goal was a rebound off of a shot from Cale Makar that he was able to jam home past a sprawling Talbot.

The Avalanche went on to win the game 4-2, with Zadorov's hat trick being the highlight of the night. Zadorov's offensive outburst was a rare occurrence, but it demonstrated the depth of the Avalanche's defensive corps and the potential for any player to step up and contribute on any given night.

Lehkonen's Imminent Return

While Zadorov was stealing the show against the Wild, Artturi Lehkonen was skating with the Avalanche in practice and getting closer to making his return to the lineup. Lehkonen has been out since March 4th with a lower-body injury, but he has been skating on his own for the past few weeks and has now joined the team for full practices.

Lehkonen's return will be a welcome sight for the Avalanche, as he brings a tenacious two-way game and a scoring touch to the team's bottom six forwards. In 49 games this season, Lehkonen has scored 11 goals and added 11 assists, and his return will give the Avalanche added depth and versatility up front.

The Avalanche have been battling injuries all season long, but they have managed to stay in the playoff race thanks to their depth and resilience. With players like Zadorov stepping up offensively and Lehkonen nearing his return, the Avalanche are well-positioned to make a run in the playoffs and contend for the Stanley Cup.
