The Seattle Kraken and Dallas Stars kicked off their second-round playoff series on Monday night in a game that had everything: drama, excitement, and a stunning overtime winner. In the end, it was the Kraken who came out on top, winning 5-4 in a game that will go down as one of the most entertaining of the playoffs so far.
Kraken Jump Out to Early Lead
Seattle got off to a fast start, scoring two quick goals in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. The first goal came just four minutes into the game, as center Alexander Wennberg pounced on a loose puck in the slot and fired a wrist shot past Stars goalie Anton Khudobin. The Kraken doubled their lead less than two minutes later, as winger Joonas Donskoi buried a rebound on the power play.

Stars Fight Back with Three Straight Goals
Dallas refused to go quietly, however, and fought back with three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead in the second period. Veteran forward Joe Pavelski was the star of the show for the Stars, scoring two goals in quick succession to tie the game at 2-2. The first came on a deflection off a shot from defenseman John Klingberg, while the second was a wicked wrist shot that beat Kraken goalie Philipp Grubauer cleanly. Defenseman Miro Heiskanen added a third for the Stars, blasting a one-timer past Grubauer on the power play.
Kraken Rally to Tie the Game
Seattle responded with a goal of their own late in the second period, as defenseman Vince Dunn scored his first goal of the playoffs to tie the game at 3-3. The Kraken then took the lead early in the third period, as center Calle Jarnkrok deflected a shot from defenseman Mark Giordano past Khudobin.
Pavelski Completes Hat Trick to Tie the Game Late
Just when it seemed like the Kraken were going to hold on for the win, Pavelski struck again, completing his hat trick with a power-play goal with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to tie the game at 4-4. The Stars nearly won it in the dying seconds of the third period, as winger Denis Gurianov rang a shot off the post with less than 10 seconds remaining.
Kraken Win in Overtime
The game went to overtime, and it didn't take long for Seattle to score the winner. Just 27 seconds into the extra period, winger Marcus Johansson pounced on a rebound off a shot from Donskoi and fired it past Khudobin to give the Kraken the win and send the home crowd into raptures.
The win gives Seattle a 1-0 lead in the series, with Game 2 set to take place on Wednesday night in Seattle.
